Waterfalls to visit near Byron Bay
I love nothing more than a rainforest photoshoot. In fact, when I get home after a waterfall photoshoot and I’m reviewing my images, I always have a moment of gratitude and disbelief that I get to clamber over dewy rocks with waterfall spray gently misting me and call it work!
Byron Bay and surrounds really delivers when it comes to amazing waterfall locations, here are a handful of my favourites…
1. Killen Falls
Killen falls is located only a short 20 minute drive from Bangalow township. I discovered Killen falls when I lived in Bangalow and was looking for refuge from a hot day.
The falls are only a short walk from a car park. You can view them from above, or saunter down to water level for a swim and to explore the cave underneath the falls.
2. Protester Falls
This one is probably my favourite. It’s about a 45 minute drive from Byron Bay and no matter how many times I go I always seem to take a wrong turn along the way. But it’s well worth the effort. The falls are about a 15 minute walk along a boardwalk trail that meanders along the river to the waterfall. The walk is lush and green and dotted with Banglow Palms, it’s magic.
3. Unicorn Falls
This one is a sweet little fall with a winding creak that you can meander all the way along which eventually leads you to the falls. Approximately 30 minutes drive from Mullumbimby, it is a bit of a local secret (sorry everyone!). Secluded and peaceful it makes a beautiful spot to camp for the night.
